Inspecting the hives
I had pencilled in the 18th of this month to inspect for eggs, but too many things to do and not enough hours in the day meant going in a few days early, carried out Inspections on both and am very happy with progress in both, I'll leave them alone now, and take another peek in maybe 3 weeks time, I'm hoping that they both fully fill out the brood box by the middle of August, I won't be adding any supers as it'll be a little too late in the year, but both these colonies with get treated for varroa if they need it, and then fed on some good stuff throughout the winter months, hopefully giving us two good strong colonies to start 2017 with, both will then get a 2nd brood box added, and then of course the flow frames, I have one box with 7 flow frames and one box with 3 flow frames and 4 plastic foundation, fingers crossed all goes well.
I carried out the Inspections, checking hive 2 first, in case we had no eggs, I knew that I could then pinch eggs from hive 1, there was no need to worry as you'll see
Hive 1 was then checked, it didn't need to be as thorough as I knew we had eggs and larvae here from the last Inspection, hive 1 must also have been a prime swarm with an already mated queen, she's now marked with a yellow dot, which is actually next years colour, but we know she's probably last years queen
hope you enjoyed watching,
