A New Chapter, a New Secret Bee Garden
it's been a funny old year, and due to a few life changes, the bee area got left to fend for themselves, I have no idea if they swarmed or not, but I ended up with two very strong colonies.
the bees from the tree/fence move never made it,
and as I was having to move home, it seemed like the bees would need to go, as I could not find anywhere to place them, items and beehives were put up for sale, after I had spun off a few supers of course.
then at the last minute I was thrown a brilliant lifeline, a local allotments to my new location said they were desperate for my bees and would I house them there, I met up with the committee members last weekend for a chat, and took over two allotments, only £30 for the year, giving me a new bee area and somewhere to grow fruit & veg, this weekend (saturday ) we got down there early ready to make a start clearing the area, and was met by other members all ready to muck in and help, gladly appreciated, we soon had the bee area sectioned off and the rotavator made light work of digging the other ground over, tarps were laid in the bee area along with bark chhippings on top, two empty hives and the plastic bunker were moved in, the two full hives will be taken down early next saturday morning, I'll also be fitting a zip door into the green salvage mesh, so fingers crossed, the honey will continue to flow next year.
